Originally titled "Romeo's Sneakers", Ren & Jade has been my most read contemporary romance to this day. The idea of this book was "Romeo and Juliet in a modern setting but with a happier ending. I had just finished writing two new novels prior to this one, and was riding a high unlike anything I'd ever felt before.
With over 20,000 reads on Wattpad, Ren & Jade has been called "bingeable" by several readers and they have all commented on Ren's very funny inner monologuing and my "unique choice of narrative".
I hope to revise this book in 2024 and see if I want to change the way I show Jade's perspective. The narrative style I took with this book is telling Ren's side of the story in 1st person, present tense (i.e. "I say" and "he/she says"), and then telling Jade's part in 3rd person, but still present tense (i.e. "Jade says" or a fly on the wall explaining what it sees). The reason I wrote the story this way was to try something new, and I had read a book with a similar style that year; I thought it was really cool and clever.
